International arts organisation ArtCan recently showcased an immersive digital exhibition of botanical artworks “that demonstrate the ability for beautiful art to empower us and to cleanse our minds”. For those who missed the exhibition, VERDANT: Nature & Effect, here are some of the highlights.
This nature-inspired showcase was designed “not only as an antithesis to such difficult circumstances worldwide over the last year and a half, but as a celebration of the flora which have given us so much strength during these times,” said Kate Enters, co-curator and Founder and Director at ArtCan.
Co-curated by Catherine Sweet, ArtCan artist and Founder of BobCat Gallery, the exhibition launched with a private view via Zoom in November 2021, and gave viewers access to a specially curated selection of artworks available to purchase from ArtCan artist members . It also included talks by a number of the participating artists.
ArtCan is an artist-led, non-profit with members across Britain and beyond, producing collaborative exhibitions which complement the work of established UK and international galleries, enabling talent to gain experience and skills. Meanwhile, the organisation also seeks new spaces where art becomes a part of everyday life. With an artist-centred ethos, ArtCan’s model avoids charging membership fees or commissions on sales, in its bid to help artists focus on developing a sustainable practice.
