On 31 March, The Cynthia Corbett Gallery will host the first UK solo show of Deborah Azzopardi’s work. The exhibition will feature over 20 originals and limited editions of Azzopardi’s bold and playful pop art.
Azzopardi has been producing work for the past 25 years and has achieved worldwide renown. “America has Lichtenstein, we have Azzopardi”, writes art critic Estelle Lovatt. Her work is published by Rosentiel’s, The Art Group, Pyramid International, Paper Rose/Simon Elvin and Art You Grew Up With, and is reproduced on posters and greeting cards. Her early works have been sold at leading auction houses such as Bonhams and Christie’s.
Azzopardi captures a moment in time or the fragment of a story. Her work has a voyeuristic ‘through the keyhole’ viewpoint, which adds a sense of fun and mystery to her work. The glamorous woman depicted in her work is only part revealed, tantalising the viewer and leaving them guessing.
The exhibition will run from 31 March to 5 April 2014 at The Cynthia Corbett Gallery in Cork Street, London.
