The Ethical Fashion Show strikes again…

The Ethical Fashion Show in Berlin this January looks set to be an exciting melee of progressive street-wear and fashion-wear labels, all under the collective banner of championing sustainability. The annual trade show has been going for six years, since 2011, but 16-18 January will be its first showcase in Berlin’s former power station, Kraftwerk.

“We are moving to the heart of Berlin Fashion Week with both our fairs and so responding to popular demand from our exhibitors and visitors for better accessibility,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies for Messe Frankfurt.

The fair fashion trade show Green Showroom is also scheduled to run at the same time in the same location.

Kraftwerk, Berlin – a former power station in Berlin and now the location for 2018 Ethical Fashion Show.

So what can fashion buyers and visitors expect at The Ethical Fashion Show 2018? It’ll be easy to get a sense of trends within sustainably produced contemporary fashion and street and casual wear. The events being held in the power station are therefore a hotspot for the future-oriented topics of fashion, technology, digitisation and sustainability.

#Fashiontech will be held on the first day of Berlin Fashion Week, followed by #FashionSustain on the second day. Both conferences will be held on the second floor of the power station. The #Fashiontech conference includes talks, best cases, stage stories and masterclasses for the industry and provides a platform for emerging ideas and business models.

So what is one of the most pronounced trends of 2018? Experts at The Ethical Fashion Show suggest we’ll be seeing a lot of back to nature. Too much sensory overload, excessive materialism – we’re all longing for simplicity, to get back to basics and we want contemporary fashion to reflect that. Look out for natural materials like alpaca, wool and olive leather, as well as neutral, matt and dusty tones inspired by dried spices, fruits and teas.

Here’s what the organisers of the Greenroom show say: “Timelessness is becoming the epitome of luxury and is expressed in multifaceted knitwear and leather designs, produced in artisan workshops. Whether combined with sophisticated tailoring and knitting patterns or innovative high-tech materials, the collections for autumn and winter 2018/19 strike the balance between modern and traditional, space age and idyllic nature. You’ll see variations on these themes exhibited at both Ethical Fashion Show and Greenroom during Berlin Fashion Week.”
