In a bid to support The Big Issue’s network of sellers who are currently faced with increased hardship on the streets, a high profile auction went live earlier this month at The Auction Collective. Big hearts and big names were involved with the likes of Gavin Turk, Vhils, Joana Vasconcelos, Bran Symondson and Goldie having contributed pieces based on customised Fender guitars donated by the legendary manufacturer. The high profile fundraiser was live-streamed and included video messages from the artists involved, some of which can be viewed via The Big Issue’s Instagram feed.
A collaboration between The Big Issue Group and Creative Giants with support from Art Below, The Big Art Auction included additional works of art – from artists ranging from Unskilled Worker, Adam Neate, Conrad Shawcross and Hayden Kays to Radiohead’s artist of choice Stanley Donwood – with exclusive and limited edition lithographs, paintings, prints and sculpture raising further funds for The Big Issue’s vital work on the frontline of UK homelessness.
Tom Best, Director of The Auction Collective, described the auction as: “A once in a lifetime opportunity to own such extraordinary objects of art. The customised guitars auctioned together with more traditional contemporary sculpture and flat art, marry together the worlds of music, fine art and philanthropy in what will be an extremely important fundraising event for The Big Issue during these troubled times.”
