Last year, Lawfully Chic reported on the world’s first ever Sustainable Luxury Awards, an event organised by the Center for Study of Sustainable Luxury (CSSL) and the Authentic Luxury Network: click here.
Thankfully the tradition of celebrating sustainable luxury continues with the issue of this year’s awards, officially known as the Best Sustainable Luxury Performance in Latin America Awards. Positive Luxury founder and CEO Diana Verde Nieto won the category of Best Media Professional in Sustainable Luxury. The award was given as a result of her continuing great work in creating Positiveluxury.com, the first dedicated online guide in the UK to solely promote brands that are environmentally and socially positive.
Other awards categories included: Best Sustainable Luxury Clothing and Accessory Company, won by Bottle Top, a social enterprise and foundation which aims to help women in developing countries generate their own income through luxury fashion products; Best Sustainable Luxury Jewellery or Watch Company, won by JEM, a pioneering brand of ethical jewellery in France; and Best Sustainable Luxury Breakthrough/ Innovative Company, won by the IOU project, which among other things links buyers with artisan producers online.
This year’s judges included Professor Jem Bendell (co-author of Deeper Luxury and a consultant in sustainable luxury), Dana Thomas (author of the New York Times bestseller Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster), María Eugenia Girón (former CEO of Carrera y Carrera and author of Inside Luxury), Ana Laura Torres (pivotal in the creation and development of the Centre for Study of Sustainable Luxury) and Ian Doyle (co-author of Uplifting the Earth).
