AURUM: sustainable jewellery turns 20!
Aurum – which stands for Ambition, Understanding,Re
Designer and founder, Guðbjörg says: “Our approach to jewellery has always been sustainable, and from the moment when Aurum launched, 20 years ago, our ethos has been to ensure that every touchpoint of the brand, from the factories to the materials to the packaging, is firmly grounded in ethical and sustainable practices.”
With regular donations (from the proceeds of selected collections) provided directly to two Icelandic charities, Aurum is philanthropic to its core. It also uses lab-grown diamonds, which fits its guilt-free jewellery philosophy and offers an ethical alternative to mined diamonds. Even the specially created packaging is modelled on Icelandic stones which designer, Guðbjörg, found on an Icelandic beach in West Iceland. Collecting the fibres from the trees requires no interference in the ecosystem since it’s the shoots that are cut whilst the tree continues to grow freely.
Guðbjörg and her team handcraft all of the jewellery in the brand’s integrated workshop and atelier in Reykjavik. The collections are sold intentionally from their e-commerce site, www.aurum.is, and from selected House of Fraser stores around the UK.
NAIRIAN: sustainable, cruelty-free skincare to love.
We don’t usually cover beauty brands at Lawfully Chic because we’re more of a fashion, culture and luxury blog, but ethical beauty brand Nairian really did sound like something exceptional. This is sustainable and cruelty-free skincare at its best, a brand founded and produced in the pristine mountains of Armenia. Nairian’s unique formulas have been expertly developed through years of scientific research and the result is cutting-edge, natural skincare solutions using principles of aromatherapy and the highest quality essential oils. Produced with organically grown ingredients from their eco-farm, each Nairian formula is designed to bring out the maximum potential of each ingredient.
Anahit Markosian, Nairian’s founder, says: “I have always believed that because humans are inseparable from nature, the best solutions for health and skincare come from the natural world. Plants have so many wonderful qualities that just need to be unlocked and appreciated, which is exactly what Nairian does. Of course, sustainability is key when it comes to working with nature. At Nairian, we take special care to learn how to grow the plants we work with sustainably and harvest what grows wild in the Armenian Highlands ethically. Sustainability for us also means using as many local ingredients as possible, because this approach creates job opportunities in a rural region and helps ensure that we are a source of support for our local community.”
