Retreat treat

Retreat treat

If you want to clear your head this summer, consider a trip to the north-west of Cyprus. Zening, Europe’s first yoga, meditation and wellness resort hotel, is opening for business this May.

The perfect haven for hard-working urbanites who find it difficult to switch off, Zening is situated a 45-minute drive from Paphos airport in Elia Village, Latchi, in the protected nature reserve of Akamas Peninsula – known in mythology as the “playground of Aphrodite”.

Zening, which aims to have a zero-carbon footprint by 2015, is a sustainable resort that doesn’t scrimp on luxury. Each of the 135 sea-facing rooms, which are located in 17 holiday cottage clutters set within 60 acres overlooking Chrysochous Bay, are all equipped with Nespresso machines, kitchenettes, a balcony or terrace and interactive touch-pad tablet computers (just in case you do need to log on!).

The arrivals and departures policy at Zening is as relaxed as the ambience. If there’s a space you can book it and stay as long as you like, looked after by nutritionists, personal trainers, yoga masters, expert spa therapists and Ayurvedic physicians. Facilities include an Ayurvedic spa, five outdoor yoga zones and one indoor yoga studio, where optional yoga and meditation classes take place from dawn until dusk. The complex also has two swimming pools, an open-air sea-front gym and various restaurants serving predominantly vegetarian food (no red meat but there is a daily fresh fish option).

The only requirement is that you’re really ready to let go because a stay at Zening is as much about detoxing your brain as it is your body. That means reducing your dependence on technology as well as eating wholesome food and exercising.

A week’s yoga holiday is available from £949 per person full board, including return flights and transfers. For more information, visit and for bookings go to or call 0845 458 0723.
