Pure couture

Sometimes only a bespoke service will do. If you’ve got an important event coming up or your wardrobe just needs some love this winter, it may be worth a trip to London-based haute couture atelier Tammam. With sustainability at its core, Tammam’s focus begins and ends with eco-friendly, high quality, stylish clothing (its motto is “saving the world in style”).

So how does it work? Sorry guys, but this one’s for the ladies. At the atelier in Bloomsbury, the haute couture bespoke service means you can get your hands on made-to-measure bridal gowns with an individualised lace-patterning of your choosing, and classic vintage inspired dresses. There’s couture daywear and evening gowns on offer too; Tammam is well known for its red carpet appearances and is a favourite of actresses including Eleanor Tomlinson, Justine Glenton and Alicia Silverstone. The atelier also offers a hire service of its couture samples too in case you need an item for a one-off event.

Gowns are made in Tammam’s central London studio, while all fabrics and embellishments are sourced from a supply chain of artisans and fair trade production units based across India and Nepal, as well as a few British and European lace manufacturers. In addition, Tammam creates many of its own fabrics – think vegetarian peace silks and vegan alternatives, many made on hand looms – to ensure the highest quality both in feel and design, as well as developing truly unique finished products.

Tammam has come into the limelight fairly fast. Head designer and Central St Martin’s fashion graduate Lucy Tammam has spent the last decade creating and developing her label with the express intention that it be as eco-conscious as it is beautiful. Tammam collections have been showcased at London, Berlin, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks. Right now the spotlight is firmly on bespoke couture garments as Lucy caters to the “modern, independent, free-thinking woman”.

“I started my label at a time when there were no fashion forward ethical brands,” she says. “Since then, Tammam has evolved to offer something truly unique – a bespoke gown made in a completely sustainable way – monitored from fibre to finish using traditional techniques. We offer old-fashioned couture service with modern forward-thinking designs and ideas.”
