Marcelle Joseph Projects’ next exhibition, “Nothing Fixed”, is an abstract painting group show curated by artist Shaun McDowell. It features predominantly new work from six important emerging British contemporary artists: Alice Browne, VardaCaivano, Christopher Green, Ralph Hunter-Menzies, Shaun McDowell and Wendy McLean.

Shaun McDowell, an experienced curator from his days of curating with Bobby Dowler at his Lyndhurst Way art squat in Peckham in 2006 and 2007, named the show “Nothing Fixed” because of his interest in works that have movement and life but do not attempt to portray recognisable objects. McDowell selected each artist in this exhibition based on specific works rather than the artist’s general oeuvre as he wanted to find artworks that rely on the movement and energy of the artist – in his own words, “works that begin and do not necessarily end, are open, finished but not fixed.”

The exhibition runs from 6 – 17 September 2011 at The Gallery in Redchurch Street, Shoreditch (with a private view on Tuesday 6 September, 6–8.30pm).
