Hats off to Pachacuti

Hats off to Pachacuti

Great news that Pachacuti won the Fashion & Accessories Award, sponsored by Vogue.com, at Thursday’s glittering Observer Ethical Awards ceremony in the Victoria & Albert Museum.

The Derbyshire based hat brand, which supports the Panama weavers of Ecuador, has masterminded a return of authentic panamas with its creations spotted everywhere from the Chelsea Flower Show to Net-a-Porter. It is the first company in the world to be accredited by the World Fair Trade Organisation.

Pachacuti was actually one of five brands sponsored through the Fashion Fair label by Fashion Press Week and Mishcon de Reya at the inaugural Fashion Press Week in November 2010 – so we’ve had our eye on this outstanding designer for a while.

Observer Ethical Awards honour the vital work of those who champion environmental and social justice, with the winners representing the best in ethical living.

Another big winner at last night’s ceremony was world-renowned scientist James Lovelock, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award for pioneering a model that now forms the basis of climate science. Jewellery industry maverick Greg Valerio took home the award for Global Campaigner for his role in bringing the world’s first Fairtrade, Fairmined ecologically certified gold to market and to the Oscars.
