Dream in green

Earlier this year, we saw the launch of a rather special ethical online retail platform, Rêve En Vert (“dream in green”). We whispered about it from our twitter account (@LawfullyChic) but now we’d like to make a bit more noise.

The venture is the brainchild of 25-year-old Cora Hilts and 28-year-old Natasha Tucker. It’s quite a pairing – Cora is the former press officer for Stella McCartney and Natasha has a background in organic farming. Together they have created an online shop which does the conscientious work for you; a range of 16 brands are sold through R.E.V., all of which are committed to sustainability and, of course, style. These brands include Berlin’s Isabell de Hillerin, The Sway, Pamela Love and Christopher Raeburn, with prices for pieces varying from £50-£450.

Cora says much of her inspiration for co-founding R.E.V. came from witnessing the simple elegance of Parisian fashion when she lived in the city, while Natasha says she was motivated by a commitment to the principle of sustainability. Both influences are evident on their website, both in the clothing they sell and the statements they make. The pair also make some brave and important pledges on their site about R.E.V.’s commitments: furthering education in order to take the conversation of sustainability outside of R.E.V; hiring people with the same vision and creating an amazing working environment; ensuring the aesthetic of their studio reflects their ethos; supporting local and like-minded independent businesses such as the neighbourhood coffee shop; and sending purchases to customers in an environmentally friendly way.

The result is more than just up-cycled furniture, carbon-neutral packaging, caffeinated minds and a pleasant office vibe. It’s also an easy way of supporting independent businesses and sustainability without taking lots of time out to do research. What’s more, R.E.V. offers a personal shopping experience in which you can visit the studio in Old Street, get advice from an in-house style consultant and see the designs first-hand. The studio also features a few exclusive pieces that aren’t available online so it’s worth dropping in if you are in the area.
