As summer draws to a close and the glitterati descend on London from New York, it can only mean one thing – Fashion Week is upon us.
With collections stretching from new ‘it’ bags from creative director Emma Hill in her final collection for Mulberry yesterday to Christopher Bailey’s much anticipated Burberry Prorsum show today, London is the place to be right now.
For those immersed in all things fashion, we have seen some exciting new collections from the industry’s most sustainable and eco-friendly designers. For those wanting to put pounds into the planet, the British Fashion Council’s Estethica is a good start.
The venture, which has been running since September 2006, promotes design excellence and commitment to working in a sustainable way. All designers adhere to at least one of the key Estethica principles: fair trade and ethical practice in the production process; the inclusion of organic fibres; or the use of up-cycled and recycled fabrics and materials.
Eleven of these leading brands are exhibiting their S/S14 collections at Somerset House during the five-day showcase.
Keep an eye out for the stunning second collection from Liora Lassalle, winner of the Estethica Re-Source competition with Central Saint Martins, as well as the new S/S14 capsule collection, People Tree Atelier, from our friends at People Tree.
Other ready-to-wear designers include Ada Zanditon, Katrien Van Hecke, Lorico and Phannatiq. Luxury British swimwear label Auria will display her designs alongside milliners Mich Dulce and Pachacuti – a Lawfully Chic favourite. Handbags and accessories from Bottletop and Sonya Kashmiri will also feature at the display area.
The Estethica showroom is situated in the West Wing of Somerset House, next to the NEWGEN area, from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 September.
