You might have thought it would never arrive but the sun is finally here – and it’s time to get those sandals on. Thankfully, laidbacklondon has just released its new Summer 2012 collection offering a range of sandals and ballerinas for these hot Olympic days.
All of laidbacklondon’s flip-flops and sandals are handmade in local communities in East Africa. The company, founded in 2002, support their workers by training them in new skills and offering them fair wages, which they hope will help to break the cycle of poverty in the area and go some way to empowering local people.
The shoes are made using traditional techniques, which ensure that the products are of the highest quality. The detail of the swirl beading on the upper straps of the Avery Sandals, for example, takes one person half a day to complete it. There’s also a thong style that ties around the ankle, or you can go for the more understated flip-flop, although there’s nothing understated about the Swarovski crystals that decorate the straps…
Whichever style you choose, the sandals will be available in light or dark leather, flat or with a wedge and with beading in gold, silver, coffee or gunmetal. What’s more, the entire range is affordable, with prices between £35 and £65, so if you really can’t choose between one style or another, you can always buy both!
