Beach party, anyone?

Beach party, anyone?

It can be a tricky one: you want to have a dance to a pretty hefty beat, but you’re conscious of others nearby who aren’t in the party mood and who want to hear the natural sounds of waves washing against the shore. Elite Island Resorts have found the perfect solution with the launch of their ‘Big Ssssh’ silent programme, the Caribbean’s first silent disco, cinema and hiking programme.

The tunes come from personal headsets that you’ll wear, alongside others, so you can stay outdoors in the tropical twilight without disturbing either the peace of environment. DJ Maseo, from the hip hop trio De La Soul, was mixing things up at Palm Island Resort in the Grenadines in June and will be at Galley Bay Resort and Spa in Antigua on 28 September, DJ-ing from a beach booth. Both events are part of a celebration of Caribbean scenery alongside the 25th anniversary of De La Soul and the 1989 release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’. Deckchairs, screens and dancing in the sand until we’re ready to take our headphones off and head quietly to bed? Sounds like our kind of holiday.

“I’m really stoked to personally launch the Caribbean’s first silent beach disco concept with Elite Island Resorts and head to Galley Bay Antigua in the Autumn too,” says DJ Maseo, adding: “Trust me, it’s going to be a party full of great music and fun, bringing the noise only to those rocking the headphones.”

But if you can’t fly off for a Caribbean jaunt that particular week, don’t worry. DJ Maseo’s two-hour set will be recorded and, from January 2015, will form part of a monthly offering organised by the resort teams at both Palm Island and Galley Bay, allowing resort guests to grab some wireless headphones and download hiking, biking, jogging and chill-out (Caribbean-style) playlists. As part of this movement towards offering outdoor activities without spoiling the silence, a schedule of popular films will also be shown from a large screen on the beach – a sandy open air cinema without any cars, rubbish or even noise to upset the vibe.
