Add some Frangipani to your wardrobe

Do shirts ever go out of fashion? If so, we haven’t noticed. This week Lawfully Chic spotted the colourful men’s shirt brand, Frangipani, and decided it was worthy of some blog space, because we love their vibrant vintage style, seasonal prints and tailored block designs.

With a name that refers to a tropical shrub (or the perfume that the shrub makes), it’s unsurprising that Frangipani has a sense of heat and colour in each of their pieces. Established by a London-based husband and wife duo who name their shirts things like ‘Cactus Makes Perfect’ and ‘Shell Yeah’, the emphasis here is on relaxation, fun and comfort. The shirts’ designs hark back to the founders’ experiences in warm, sandy spots, each piece influenced by travels of some sort.

If you’ve read any of our previous blogs you’ll know we shine the light on ethical fashion brands, so you will be unsurprised to discover that Frangipani has its share of conscience too. It donates a quarter of its profits from the ‘Blue Palm’ shirt to the Blue Marine Foundation, a charity dedicated to creating marine reserves and establishing sustainable models of fishing with the aim of protecting 10% of the world’s oceans by 2020.

Whether you buy the ‘Blue Palm’ shirt or another, they’re all the same price (£75) – each classic and colourful, with prints revolving around ancient block and screen-printing techniques. In recent years, Frangipani has broadened out from beach references to include elements of Ibiza Dancefloors, Voodoo Gods, Scarface and Tropical Birds. All shirts feature Frangipani’s classic collar with a tweak on the back. Additionally, they are all made of 100% power-loom cotton; dating back to 1875, this manufacturing process produces a light-weight, soft yet strong cotton.
