A marriage of conscience and style

A marriage of conscience and style

We love a good wedding as much as the next person but, let’s admit it, they’re not always the most environmentally conscientious affairs. Take the bride’s dress for example: more often than not it gets worn once before being relegated to the closet. That’s one motivation behind wedding accessory boutique owner Olivier Laudus’s business – he wanted to select wedding pieces that would last for longer than the day itself.

The Olivier Laudus brand started in 2004 with a collection of luxury ring cushions exhibited at the National Wedding Show. Since then, it has expanded to include headbands, tiaras, jewellery, veils and other interesting extras such as guestbooks and wedding umbrellas (sensible if you’re planning on getting hitched in the UK).

A decade on from its inception, the focus this year at Olivier Laudus is Hollywood glamour and the elegance of bygone eras. The designer’s Great Glamour collection is aimed at stylish contemporary brides, with 20s-inspired headbands and art deco style jewellery using Crystallised Swarovski Elements (priced between £65-235).

Most of the pieces are hand made, and quality and style is of vital importance. The veils, for example, are from Joyce Jackson,  a long-established family business based in Wales whose veils are hand-cut and made using the finest Italian tulle. Much of the jewellery is made with Swarovski components or cubic zirconia and is rhodium plated to ensure items don’t tarnish.

And the luxury white cardboard presentation boxes are made from recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials, as well as paper that is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and also 100% recyclable and biodegradable. Even the waste paper produced during the manufacturing process of the boxes is collected and recycled.
